About Us : St. Elizabeth Catholic High School is a vibrant Catholic learning community, located in the heart of Thornhill, Ontario, only minutes away from the City of Toronto. There are 1485 students with over 100 dedicated staff, who focus on success for all students. We are proud of the fact that we have close ties with the parent community, thereby ensuring a strong community that supports the academic and co-curricular efforts of the school.
Our parent council meets every third Wednesday of the month to discuss, share and advise us on the school programs, St. Elizabeth is a dynamic an innovative environment that prides itself on being able to offer students the support and programming to suit their individual needs.
At St. Elizabeth, there is something for everyone.
We are the home to the first and only Regional Arts Program in York Region offered within a Catholic secondary school setting. Students audition in January each year for one of four art disciplines: dance, drama, visual arts and music. Once accepted, students pursue an extensive study of their specialized arts discipline over the course of a four year secondary school program. It is well known that the arts enhance academic achievement.
Our Comprehensive program is dedicated providing students with a rigorous academic program. Our students are inspired to strive for academic and personal excellence. At St. Elizabeth, we all work to producing young adults who are intellectually curious, caring members of the community and life long learners.
St. Elizabeth also offers students to foster a sense of community and belonging by participating in a wide variety of extracurricular activities ranging from a very strong athletics program, with a full complement of sports teams, to thriving clubs like the Math Club, Global Culture Club, Peer Ministry, newspaper and yearbook. Each one of these activities appeal to a broad range of interests and provide students with the opportunity to develop leadership skills.
The results of last year's literacy testing indicate that 86% of our students successfully completed the OSSLT, which is a full 4% higher than the provincial average. This outstanding score on the literacy test is in large part due to the innovative and multi-pronged support system that St. Elizabeth has put in place to help ensure success for all students. Whether you are interested in the arts or biotechnology, there are specialized programs for you.
Our multicultural school community provides opportunities for students to become mature global citizens who demonstrate respect for diversity, who are challenged academically and who learn to think critically and independently. In a rapidly changing and technologically demanding world, we ensure that our students learn, through a holistic and Gospel centered curricula, to acquire the literacy and problem solving skill, necessary to encounter the challenges that lie ahead.
